Sophomores with a Convincing Win Over Burnsville

By Coach Olsen 01/18/2017, 3:30pm CST

Record Improves to 4-1 in the Conference

The sophomore boys basketball team posted their most convincing win of the season with a 50-17 win over Burnsville. This was the boy’s fourth straight win and improved their conference record to 4-1.

The first half opened as a physical defensive battle as both teams traded baskets for much of the half. It wasn’t until the play of Larry Wright and Derek Rauch helped the Lightning close the half on a 10-0 run and built a 24-12 lead.

In the second half, Eastview’s defense stiffened even more as their suffocating defense forced turnovers and bad shots, flustering Burnsville. The Lightning opened the second half on a 20-1 run to push their advantage to 44-13. The run was 30-1 between the two halves.

Dawson Nagel led the second half offensive surge, finishing with 16 points, including 3 consecutive three pointers at one point. Derek Rauch and Shawn Johnson both pitched in 9 points apiece and Larry Wright added 8 points and 10 rebounds.

The Lightning are next in action on Friday @ Lakeville North, in a battle for first place in the conference.

Sophomores Grab First Win, Defeat Hastings

By Coach Olsen 12/16/2016, 7:00am CST

The boys sophomore team captured their first win of the year, defeating Hastings 51-34.  Eastview jumped to an early 10 point lead on the strength of their swarming traps which led to easy transition hoops. But Hastings slowly chipped away and pulled within 4 at half.  In the second half, after a back and forth first few minutes, Eastview established control of the game with their swarming defense and after Hastings pulled within 34-30, the Lightning closed on a 17-4 run to clinch the 51-34 victory.  Larry Wright led all scorers with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Caden Scales added 11 and AJ Green chipped in 8.
