EASTVIEW 6th MAN CLUB MEETING MINUTES
November 3, 2009
The November meeting began around 7:10 p.m. with Gregg Kuhn giving a quick welcome to a great crowd of booster supporters.
Tip-Off Classic
Gregg Kuhn has recruited 6-7 key coordinators making great progress as we head into our first season's event. EVAA In-House and Traveling teams have been invited to join the EVHS teams to showcase their skills and join in some fun contests. There will be three high school scrimmages; 9th Grade, 10th Grade and JV/Varsity. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with a Silent Auction. The Tip-Off starts at 6:00 p.m.. The Silent Auction baskets are being organized by teams including EVAA. The EVHS teams will be donating two baskets per team. Parents have been asked to solicit items for their baskets and to help with that a formal letter has been created to present to businesses and sponsors. Previously, we've mentioned some of our big raffle items and each player will be given 10 tickets to sell at $5 each. The packet of tickets will be given to each player after teams have been formed just a few days before the Tip-Off but you can spread the word to friends/family ahead of time. You do not need to be present to win raffle items, but you do for silent auction items, etc. The Tip-Off Flyer is posted to the basketball website; feel free to download, print and promote. Misc.
Home Game Announcer-We've also secured a new home game announcer, John Lien. He is energetic with a unique voice so welcome him at the home games this season.
On-Line Registration-A previous e-mail was sent to everyone as Coach Gerber was asked by the EVHS Athletic Program to help pilot a new "on-line" registration process from Nov. 2-Nov. 9. Those details were posted to the basketball website and sent in a prior email. Angie Otto provided her insights into the process as well as Kris Wesser. If you took part in this new registration process, please feel free to pass along your suggestions to Coach Gerber and he'll bring them to the AD and EVHS staff.
Uniforms-Mike Oberfeld presented the inventory situation that was completed. Overall, things are not too bad, but the Sophomore uniforms are in the worst shape and will need some white shorts and possibly full replacements soon. A plan is being put together to determine costs for the replacements and when the budget can handle this expense. It was also determined that wash and care instructions need to be provided to players and their families. As "iron" marks were present on a uniform. Uniforms are not to be ironed or put into the dryer.
JV/Varsity Poster/Program
Angie Otto presented a new format to the basketball program book without any ads being solicited this year. In the past, this was a "break even" project so the objective was to find a less costly way to create the book without selling ads for revenue. The baseball and hockey teams have been working with the graphics/printing dept. at Dakota County Technical College and the costs received so far will allow us to print a full color book without ads. DCTC will manage both the layout and the printing of the book. We are given a 30% discount and this savings will allow us to deliver the same quality without selling ads. The poster will remain a panoramic shot, but we will reduce the qty ordered since every ad sponsor received a poster last year. Attendees at the meeting agreed with this new approach.
PAK parties-help needed
We are looking for one to two volunteers to help coordinate the PAK nights for the JV/Varsity Team. The coordinator needs to plan for two to three PAK parties after home games in the commons, two to three Saturday shoot-arounds, and then simply finalize the dates of the parent sponsored PAK nights in homes. We do have one Sophomore mom already willing to step up if another parent would like to join her. Angie did this last year and can help provide information and instruction.
EVAA
Jim Narum provided an update with EVAA. Pizza parties with the teams (Feb. 5 and Feb. 19) are being finalized as well as the Shot Club Awards in December. EVHS coaching staff provided fall clinics for the coaches and the players which was very well received. There is also a plan to coordinate the EVAA team introductions; these will be managed in smaller groups over several games.
Concessions
Jodi Ulrich and Katy Jonas along with Jim and Merilu are finalizing the plans to manage the concessions. The idea is to possibly have the bulk of volunteers from the 9th and 10th grade parents. JV/Varsity players will help rotate in before half-time when the rush takes place. They are also reaching out to LINC and NHS for students to help fill their community service hours.
Community Service
Mollie Trusty is finalizing details on the Community Service activities with Coach Olson.
Individual teams will be reaching out into the community as well as an entire basketball program service event at Feed My Starving Children. Parents of players are welcome to join the team and coaches. A Food Drive is also being planned with the EVHS Student Body. Watch for further details.
Events
FastBreak League-Gregg Kuhn thanked Jim Narum for all of his hard work this past summer for the Fastbreak League in making it run very smoothly at AVHS this year. Revenue was as expected and concessions again contributed even more profit than the first year.
Duluth Trip-Teresa Radermacher said hotels have been secured for Friday, December 4. Players will be asked to pay for their rooms and the cost is roughly $45/player so far. This is not yet finalized. The reservation is at the Edgewater. Currently, a bus is planned for the players and coaches and is expected to cost around $1,500. If a charter bus is less, that may be a second option.
Half-time Entertainment-Lori Haugh mentioned some of their planned events including the band for two nights; Jan. 7 and Jan. 19. The Danceline is tentatively planned for a Jan. night as well. The entertainment committee is working hard to have some fun at our home games this season.
Coach Comments
Coach Gerber said he needs a volunteer to set up the display board that houses the team and player photos before each home game. The case is stored in the team room. When team photos are taken extra head shots are needed for the display case and also the display cabinet in the commons.
The meeting adjourned around 8:30 p.m. a bit later than normal; thanks for everyone's attention to get through our agenda.
The December date for the monthly 6th Man Club Meeting will be Monday, Dec. 7. Please watch for location in the EVHS Daily Announcements.
