EASTVIEW 6th MAN CLUB MEETING MINUTES

December 7, 2009

Steve Radermacher opened  the December booster meeting with a few comments.

Financial Update

Mark provided a budget handout with itemized revenue and expenses for the year. We're going into the season with a much healthier outlook since our first key fundraiser, The Tip-Off Classic, produced almost a $1,000 higher revenue than planned.  Great Job Everyone!

Additional key fundraisers coming up are the 9th/10th Grade Free-Throw-A-Thons. 9th Grade letters for pledges were planned to be mailed on 12-9 with free throws being shot by players on 12-16. 10th Grade is still being planned with the coaches. This fundraiser is only done for 9th and 10th Grade Players.

Tip-Off Classic

The Tip-Off was again a success by all the hard work from our parents. The Silent Auction proved itself to be rewarding by the $1,200 brought in. Raffle purchases took in another $1,900 and involving the EVAA brought in the smiles and laughter that younger players provide to the community as they work to become great Lightning Players. We hope that next year we can again involve the Girls Basketball Program. We seem to have created a good working formula for future years.  The budget was to raise $2,000 and we raised around $3,000 after expenses.

Program Fee (booster fee)

The program fee is an additional voluntary fee that we have requested all players, 9th-12th Grade to pay this year. The District has not increased the basketball budget in 11 years so the booster club has had to create its own source of fundraising programs. The program fee is intended to be a long-term investment required for those large expenses that only come every couple of years. For instance, we need new Sophomore white jerseys and that large expense cannot be handled by the normal yearly budget so the program fee revenue is a plan to accommodate those large purchases when they occur. Again, it is not required but merely requested. Football, Baseball etc have done similar fees (booster fees) for the same purpose. We have budgeted over $2,200 for this year's budget and have taken in around $900 so far. If you have not paid your $50 program/booster fee yet this year, please mail a check to:

MYAS Supersaver-Sun., Jan. 10

The next large fundraiser is the one-day supersaver tournament the booster club is hosting for MYAS. All games will be held at one facility-EVHS. To date, the roster of teams registered is low, but they have until the end of December to do so. Hopefully, enough teams will sign up for this event to happen. An idea was raised to promote the event by communicating directly with south metro traveling basketball programs. Both EVAA boys/girls traveling teams play in another tournament that same weekend.

Misc.

Concessions-New this year for the booster club is managing concessions although a lot of work it again provides a new revenue source. Please watch for e-mails on when you are required to work a home game or help at half-time. The main parent volunteers are pulled from the 9th/10th Grade Players.  JV/Varsity parents help at half-time. A volunteer schedule is created and managed by Katy Jonas and e-mailed out to everyone. If you cannot work the shift assigned it is your responsibility to find an alternate for your spot. Contact Katy with any questions at kmjonas@charter.net.

Basketball Book

Angie is working with DCTC for this years program as we chose not to solicit for sponsors and ads by businesses. If anyone has photos taken at the JV/Varsity games please e-mail them in December to Angie at angie@gammatool.com. Most everyone has submitted their $15 player ads, but if you have not please contact Angie by Dec. 18.

Parent Night

This is scheduled for our first home game on December 11 against Eagan. Parents will line up by the Team Room after the JV game. Players and parents will be announced and photos taken. This year we voted again not to purchase corsages for the moms due to the tight budget.

PAK parties

A team of moms will be working to organize and coordinate PAK events. Penny Moorse and Amy Shanks are leading that group. The first PAK night is at the Kuhns after the Eagan game on Dec. 11. The next PAK event will be on Dec. 23 (alumni night) after the game in the EV Commons. This is for players, coaches and alumni. Angie brought up that last year the booster club gave away some gift cards (e.g.Applebees) to alumni in a drawing and can we do that again this year?

EVAA

EVAA has reached out to the booster club to fill 131 hours this year for their Boys Tournament on Dec. 12/13. Jim Narum is managing the spreadsheet of slots to fill by 10th-12th Grade Players for time/scorekeeping. 9th Grade is exempt since they play. If the booster club can cover all 131 hours and guarantee all shifts are managed we'll receive our normal $10/hour rate to the booster club and an additional $250 bonus this year. This is a win-win for both programs. To make sure all players show up Jim has asked for parent shift leads to fill in if a backup is needed. Watch for the final spreadsheet to be e-mailed out.

Community Service

All 9th-12th Grade Players will be taking part in "Feed My Starving Children" on Wed., December 30 at 9:30-11:30 am. We need 50 people for this event; players should cover around 40 slots and we are needing 10 parents to also volunteer. Please contact Jodi Ulrich if you can help fill a parent slot. Jodi can be reached at 612-703-6740 or by e-mail at Jodi.Ulrich@co.dakota.mn.us

Additional team service events are:

Sophomore Team: Sun., Jan. 24 at Ebenezer Ridges in Burnsville (3:00-4:45 pm)

JV/Varsity:  Sat., Jan. 9 at Augustana Healthcare in Apple Valley (2:00-3:45 pm)

Voices of Hope

The EVHS choir department is again hosting their sing-a-thon fundraiser. The money raised is given to The Angel Foundation to assist families dealing with the effects of cancer. The booster club has been asked to donate $100 for the event. Jim Narum will reach out to the choir department. He'll be discussing their needs for the donation along with the booster needs for students to sing the National Anthem at home games.

Coach Comments

Coach Gerber said the Duluth Trip was a great trip. The facilities were nice and the games were competitive. Matt Percival is looking for a parent volunteer to manage the new scoreboard player details. This includes fouls, substitutions, points, etc. If you are interested please let Coach Gerber know, otherwise he'll probably ask a manager to handle.

The meeting adjourned shortly after 8:00 p.m.

The January date for the monthly 6th Man Club Meeting will be held on the second Monday which is January 11.  The meeting will be in Coach Gerber's classroom at 7:00 p.m..
